Dan Daniell | Wolli and the story of the first ascent of the Matterhorn

Famous far beyond Zermatt, the artist and musician Urs Biner, alias Dan Daniell, has with the little Blacknose sheep Wolli and as the author of the fourth book created a deeply symbolic and authentic story that is a source of much delight. In the illustrated book for children, the shepherd Heini tells the story of the first ascent of the Matterhorn to mark its 150th anniversary.

Wolli and his friends are dozing in the sunshine and feeling bored. Then the shepherd Heini gets up and starts telling them about the summer of 1865 when seven men set off from Zermatt in order to be the first people to stand on the peak of the Matterhorn, while, at the same time, another climbing party tried to conquer the mountain from the Italian side…
